Vajrayana Buddhist Center opened in Chicago in September 1997. At that time there were many Kadampa Meditation Centers along the east and west coasts of America, but not any in the Midwest. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso had received several requests from people in the Chicago area to send a Teacher, and so he asked Gen Kelsang Khedrub to move from Toronto to Chicago and open Vajrayana Buddhist Center.

Since that time, Vajrayana Buddhist Center has grown into a mature and active meditation center offering regular introductory classes in Oak Park, Lakeview, Evanston, Palatine, and Palos Heights. Vajrayana Center also offers two systematic programs in Buddhist studies called the Foundation Program and the Teacher Training Program.

Once a month there is a special event where students from all the branches can gather together for teachings with Gen Khedrub. And most every weekend there is a Sunday service at 10am.

We hope that you are able to find deep inner peace and wisdom through the classes offered at Vajrayana Buddhist Center.
